Colmenar Viejo – Dehesa de Navalvillar

Ripassando da Comenar Viejo ci siamo fermati per fare qualche nuova foto. In particolare avevo capito che il Pico de San Pedro, che sovrasta la Dehesa de Navalvillar, è presente in decine di film, soprattutto western ma anche di altri generi, tra cui due colossal storici (Alessandro il Grande e Spartacus).

Peccato che dei villaggi western non ci sia più neppure l’ombra. Comunque il luogo è davvero bello ma, come al solito, torchiato da un sole caldo e cattivo. Quasi impossibile avventurarsi in lunghe passeggiate.

C’è anche una foto di Madrid, il cui skyline si vede all’orizzonte, che mi ricorda molto una veduta da dopobomba, tipica di alcuni film e racconti di fantascienza (almeno a me ha dato quell’impressione, ma magari era solo il troppo caldo).

Going back to Colmenar Viejo we stopped to take some new photos. In particular, I had understood that Pico de San Pedro, the mountain which overlooks the Dehesa de Navalvillar, is present in dozens of films, especially westerns but also of other genres, including two historical colossals (Alexander the Great and Spartacus).

Unfortinately there is not trace of the western villages anymore. However, the place is really beautiful but, as usual, torched by a hot and bad sun. Almost impossible to venture on long walks.

There is also a photo of Madrid, whose skyline can be seen on the horizon, which reminds me very much of an after-bomb view, typical of some films and science fiction stories (it gave me that impression, but maybe it was only the too hot).

La Calahorra 2019

Giusto per testimonianza ho inserito qualche foto dell’estate 2019, anche se le inquadrature riprese negli anni precedenti erano già dettagliate. L’unica novità, per i miei ricordi, è che la finta ferrovia, poi dismessa, questa volta l’abbiamo percorsa interamente in auto (nonostante le proteste di mia moglie).

I added some photos of summer 2019, even if the shots taken in previous years were already detailed. The only news is that this time we covered entirely by car the abandoned railroad (despite my wife’s protests).

Regali di Natale (Christmas Gifts)

A Natale non faccio molti regali. Di solito regalo libri alle persone a cui tengo di più. Tra queste comprendo anche me stesso. Compro un paio di libri, cancello il prezzo, li fascio,  scrivo un bigliettino (da me a me stesso) con tanti auguri e metto il pacchetto sotto l’albero.

Racconto tutto questo perché quest’anno mi sono regalato due libri che possono interessare chi frequenta questo e altri siti del genere.

• TuttoLeone di Oreste De Fornari – Gremese Editore – 2018.

Il libro è molto ben strutturato e contiene molti documenti, interviste, dati, ricordi, giudizi. Davvero molto interessante e piacevole.

•  Guida al cinema Western di M.Tetro e S.Di Marino – Odoya Editore – 2016

Questo l’ho cominciato da poco ma è davvero interessantissimo. Non è una enciclopedia ma è scritto come una storia. Inizia dalla preistoria (western muto in bianco e nero) fino ad arrivare ai giorni nostri. A occhio mi sembra proprio bello.

At Christmas I don’t give many gifts. I usually give books to some people around me. Among these I also refer to myself. I buy a couple of books, cancel the price, bundle them, write a note (from me to myself) with best wishes and put the package under the Chritmas tree.

I tell this because this year I have given myself two books that may interest those who frequent this and other sites of the genre.

• TuttoLeone by Oreste De Fornari – Gremese Editore – 2018.

The book is very well structured and contains many documents, interviews, data, memories, judgments. it is really very interesting and pleasant.

• Guide to Western cinema by M.Tetro and S.Di Marino – Odoya Editore – 2016

Also this one seems very interesting. It is not an encyclopedia but it is written like a story. It starts from prehistory (silent western in black and white) up to the present day. To my eye it looks really nice.

Sweetwater – Tour 2019

La scorsa estate, passando da Tabernas, abbiamo deciso di visitare Fuerte El Condor, location di numerosi film come ho descritto brevemente in una pagina dedicata.

Per raggiungere il forte si aggira Western Leone, uno dei set principali di C’era una Volta il West, la cittadina di Sweetwater.

Così abbiamo scattato un po’ di foto da queste nuove angolazioni. Ho aggiunto qui una piccola sezione dedicata al tour 2019.

Last summer, passing through Tabernas, we decided to visit Fuerte El Condor, location of several movies as I briefly described on the dedicated page.

To reach the fort you pass around Western Leone, one of the main sets of Once Upon a Time in the West, the village of Sweetwater.

So we took some photos from these new angles. I added here a short section dedicated to the 2019 tour.

Los Albaricoques – Il tempo passa (time passes)

Eravamo, come spesso accade, nell’area di Cabo de Gata e non abbiamo rinunciato a fare un altro giro nelle location più belle.

Al termine della pagina dedicata a questa zona – Los Albaricoques e dintorni – ho aggiunto una sezione dedicata al tour 2019, con qualche nuova foto, qualche foto vecchia riesumata per l’occasione e qualche piccola novità.

We were, as often happens, in the Cabo de Gata area and we did not give up taking another tour in the most beautiful locations.

At the end of the page dedicated to this area – Los Albaricoques and surroundings – I added a section dedicated to the 2019 tour, with some new photos, some old photos resurrected for the occasion and some small news.

Una pistola per Ringo (A Pistol for Ringo)

Un altro fuori programma…ho voluto inserire una segnalazione a questo film del 1965 di Duccio Tessari con Giuliano Gemma perché è stato girato interamente nei dintorni di San Josè, in particolare nella zona della Playa de Los Genoveses.

E’ uno dei nostri posti preferiti…e tutti gli anni passiamo davanti al Molino del Collado e lo fotografiamo.

Così ho messo insieme qualche foto comparata alle sequenze del film. Le ho aggiunte qui,  raggiungibili anche dalla pagina dei luoghi, sezione ‘Fuori Programma’.

Another unscheduled … I added a section referred to A Pistol for Ringo (1965), a film directed by Duccio Tessari with Giuliano Gemma because it was entirely shot in the surroundings of San Josè, in particular in the area of Playa de Los Genoveses.

This is one of our favorite places … and every year we pass in front of the Molino de Collado and photograph it.

So I put together some photos compared to the sequences of the film. I added them at this link, which can also be reached from the location page, section ‘Unscheduled’.

La Pesquera di Madrid: una piccola scoperta (a little discovery)

Nel giro che abbiamo fatto in Spagna nel 2019 abbiamo trascorso qualche giorno a Toledo.

Da un po’ di tempo mi frullava nella testa l’immagine di una porta monumentale, la Puerta de Bisagra Nueva, risalente al XVI secolo, inserita nelle mura che cingono la città antica. L’avevo già vista da qualche parte ma non ricordavo dove.

Poi finalmente, scorrendo per la milionesima volta le foto scattate in Spagna alla ricerca di qualche nuovo elemento da aggiungere al sito, ho trovato: nell’estate del 2016 avevamo fotografato il ristorante La Pesquera a Madrid poiché qui erano state filmate alcune scene di Per un Pugno di Dollari.

Non so bene per quale ragione (in internet non sono riuscito a trovare notizie) l’edificio originario, quello che si vede nel film, è stato ricoperto da una struttura che è la copia quasi esatta della Puerta de Bisagra di Toledo (qui puoi vedere le foto).

During the tour we did in Spain in 2019 we spent a few days in Toledo.

For some time the image of a monumental door, the Puerta de Bisagra Nueva, dating back to the 16th century and inserted in the walls that surround the ancient city, has been whirling in my head. I’d seen it somewhere before but didn’t remember where.

Then finally, scrolling for the millionth time the photos taken in Spain in search of some new element to add to the site, I found: in the summer of 2016 we had photographed La Pesquera restaurant in Madrid since some scenes of Per un Fistful of Dollars were shot there..

I don’t know why (over internet I couldn’t find any explanation) the original building, what you see in the film, was covered by a structure that is the almost exact copy of the Puerta de Bisagra in Toledo (you can see the photos here).

 

 

 

Hoyo de Manzanares: Una “piccola” delusione (what a delusion!)

Siamo passati ancora una volta da Hoyo de Manzanares perché avevo trovato su internet la notizia che il Comune aveva rivalutato la zona dell’antico set cinematografico, denominato Decorado Golden City.

Effettivamente sono stati installati un po’ di cartelli di segnalazione e spiegazione. Ma la cosa più entusiasmante doveva essere una app di realtà aumentata, chiamata “Vivi Hoyo”, tramite la quale si ricostruivano le scenografie e gli edifici di San Miguel, il paese dove si svolge la storia di Per un Pugno di Dollari.

Che delusione (non tanto piccola)…abbiamo installato la app ma non ha funzionato, nonostante i ripetuti tentativi..installa…disinstalla…reinstalla…tutto sotto le martellate di un sole a quaranta gradi…ma niente da fare.

Dato che il dubbio che siamo noi ad essere degli incapaci non mi ha abbandonato del tutto non rinunciate…magari qualcuno riesce a farla funzionare…auguri.

Comunque qualche nuova foto l’abbiamo scattata e aggiunta al sito.

We went once again to Hoyo de Manzanares because I had found on the internet the news that the Municipality had upgraded the area of the ancient movie set, called Decorado Golden City.

In fact, some signal with explanations have been installed. But the most exciting thing was to be an augmented reality app, called “Vivi Hoyo”, through which the scenography and buildings of San Miguel, the village where the story of Per un Pugno di Dollari takes place, should have been virtually re-built.

What a disappointment!  … we installed the app but it didn’t work, despite repeated attempts … install … uninstall … reinstall … all under the hits of a forty-degree sun … but nothing to do.

Since the doubt that we were not able to run the app has not completely abandoned me, don’t give up … maybe someone can make it work … best wishes.

However, we took some new pictures and added to the site.

Un po’ d’ordine (a partial reset)

Prima di tutto ho finalmente trovato il fotogramma dove si vede il luogo di una fotografia scattata a Boca de Los Frailes qualche anno fa (non è che scatto foto a casaccio per il mondo e poi le cerco nei fotogrammi…solo che avevo trovato da qualche parte una indicazione in proposito).  Non ero mai riuscito a scovarla nella montagna di fotogrammi che guardo ormai da qualche anno e ora, con un po’ più di attenzione, l’ho trovata in una sequnza notturna di Per un Pugno di Dollari.

First of all I finally found the frame where you can see the place of a photograph taken in Boca de Los Frailes a few years ago (usually i don’t take pictures at random then looking for them in the frames … but in this case I had found somewhere an indication in this regard). I had never been able to find her in the mountain of frames that I have been watching for a few years and now, with a little more attention I found it in a nightly Scene of For a Fistful of Dollars..

Poi ho inserito una pagina dedicata a Las Hortichuelas. E’ una piccola località all’interno del parco di Cabo de Gata dove è stata girata una scena de Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo – nota come ‘Socorro Sequence’ – che è stata tagliata e non è mai uscita nelle sale.

Then I inserted a page dedicated to Las Hortichuelas. It is a small village inside the Cabo de Gata natural park where a scene of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, known as ‘Socorro Sequence’, was shot and then was cut and never went out in cinemas.

A proposito … in questa scena il barista è Ricardo Palacios, accreditato nei titoli del film ma che in effetti non compare.

About this … in this scene the bartender is Ricardo Palacios, credited in the titles of the film but who does not actually appear.

 

Tabernas – Fuerte El Condor

Ecco il set spettacolare costruito per la sceneggiatura del western El Condor, del 1970, di John Guillermin con Lee Van Cleef e Jim Brown, . Beh…spettacolare all’epoca…ora ci sono soltanto ruderi.

Si trova proprio a fianco di Western Leone. Prima di essere abbandonato fu utilizzato per le scene di moltissimi film.

Here is the spectacular set built for the 1970 screenplay of the western El Condor, by John Guillermin with Lee Van Cleef and Jim Brown,. Well … spectacular at that time … now there are only ruins.

It is located right next to Western Leone. Before being abandoned it was used for the scenes of many films.
